Overview

What is Greeva Basti — Ayurvedic Neck and Shoulder Care?

Greeva Basti, sometimes written as Greeva Vasti, is a traditional Ayurvedic practice in which comfortably warm herbal oil is retained over the neck area within a carefully prepared dough ring. It offers sustained, localised warmth as part of a quiet and personalised wellbeing experience.

Neck discomfort is familiar to many people whose daily routines involve extended screen time, prolonged sitting or travelling. Greeva Basti provides dedicated time to pause and bring attention to the neck and shoulder area.

Traditional Ayurvedic descriptions of neck pain and stiffness include the terms Greeva Shula, Greeva Stambha and Manya Stambha.

Within traditional Ayurvedic practice, Greeva Basti may form part of a broader approach alongside Abhyanga, massage with herbal oils; Patra Pinda Sweda, warm herbal-leaf poultice treatment; and Nasya, the administration of preparations through the nose. These are distinct practices, and their suitability requires individual assessment. They are not automatically included in a Greeva Basti appointment.

Greeva Basti is offered as a complementary wellbeing practice.
