Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 28 July 2026

1. About us

The Ayur Chikitsa is operated by The Ayur Chikitsa Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17314065.

Registered office and treatment studio:
3 Wain Close
York
United Kingdom
YO32 9YQ

Studio appointments are available by prior appointment only.

2. These terms

These Service Terms & Conditions apply when you book or purchase a consultation, massage, bodywork session or wellbeing ritual from The Ayur Chikitsa through our website, booking system, email, telephone or another agreed method.

The following documents also apply where relevant:

These documents should be read together. Your booking confirmation will identify the specific service, appointment date, duration and price that apply to your booking.

3. Booking requests and appointment confirmation

Submitting a booking form or contacting us about an appointment is a request and does not by itself confirm an appointment.

Your appointment is confirmed only when:

  • we have accepted the requested service, date and time;
  • any required payment or booking payment has been received; and
  • we have sent you written confirmation by email, text message or through the booking system.

A contract between you and The Ayur Chikitsa is formed when the appointment is confirmed.

Please check your confirmation carefully and tell us promptly if any information is incorrect.

4. Nature of our services

The Ayur Chikitsa provides complementary wellbeing services based on traditional Ayurvedic principles.

Our services are intended for relaxation, self-care and general wellbeing. They do not provide or replace:

  • medical diagnosis;
  • medical treatment;
  • physiotherapy;
  • mental-health treatment;
  • emergency care;
  • prescribed medication; or
  • advice from a GP, pharmacist, consultant or other regulated healthcare professional.

We do not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent medical conditions.

Do not stop or alter prescribed medication, delay medical investigation or disregard medical advice because of information received during a consultation or wellbeing session.

Please speak to an appropriate healthcare professional about new, persistent, severe or unexplained symptoms.

5. Service descriptions

We take reasonable care to describe each service accurately.

Website descriptions explain the usual format of a service. Because sessions are personalised, the exact oil, pressure, sequence, position or technique may be adapted after discussing your preferences and suitability.

Any significant proposed change will be explained to you. You may ask questions, request an adjustment or decline any part of a session.

Images used on the website are illustrative and may not show the exact room, oil, equipment or sequence used during your appointment.

No particular result is promised or guaranteed.

6. Appointment duration

Unless the service page or booking confirmation clearly states otherwise, the advertised duration is the total appointment time. It may include:

  • a short pre-session discussion;
  • preparation and changing time;
  • the practical massage or ritual;
  • rest time; and
  • brief aftercare information.

The amount of hands-on treatment time may therefore be shorter than the total appointment duration.

Please arrive at the time stated in your booking instructions.

7. Prices and payment

The total price, including any mandatory charges and applicable taxes, will be shown or confirmed before the appointment is accepted.

The price stated in your confirmed booking is the price payable for that appointment unless you and The Ayur Chikitsa agree a change.

Bookings are made by request. After you submit a booking request we confirm availability by email; if the requested time is available, we send a secure payment link to complete your booking. Your appointment is only guaranteed once payment has been received against the confirmed time. Where you prefer, payment may be taken in full at the studio at the time of your appointment, by prior agreement.

Card payments are securely processed by Stripe. We receive limited payment confirmation and transaction information but do not store complete payment-card details.

Prices may change for future appointments, but a later price change will not normally affect an appointment that has already been confirmed and paid for.

8. Information you provide

You must provide information that is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge.

Before receiving a service, you must tell the practitioner about relevant matters including:

  • medical conditions;
  • medication and supplements;
  • allergies and sensitivities;
  • pregnancy or breastfeeding;
  • recent surgery or injury;
  • skin infections or contagious illness;
  • previous reactions to oils or massage; and
  • significant changes since a previous appointment.

You must update us where relevant information changes.

The practitioner may adapt, postpone or decline a service where information needed to assess suitability has not been provided, where there is a reasonable safety concern or where the requested service falls outside the practitioner’s professional scope.

Further details are contained in the Client Safety & Treatment Information page.

9. Consent and personal comfort

You remain in control throughout your appointment.

You may:

  • ask questions;
  • request a change in pressure, position, temperature or draping;
  • decline any part of a session;
  • ask the practitioner to pause; or
  • withdraw your consent and end the session.

Only the area being worked on will be uncovered, and appropriate draping will be used.

Withdrawing consent does not automatically create a right to a full refund for a service or part of a service already supplied. Each situation will be considered fairly, and your statutory rights are unaffected.

10. Oils, herbs and allergies

Some sessions use herbal oils, botanical ingredients, seed oils, nut-derived ingredients or other traditional preparations.

You must disclose known allergies, sensitivities and previous adverse reactions before the appointment.

Where reasonably possible, an alternative oil may be offered. However, an entirely allergen-free environment cannot be guaranteed.

A patch test may be suggested but cannot guarantee that a later reaction will not occur.

Ayurvedic oil can transfer to hair, clothing, towels, jewellery, upholstery or personal belongings. Please follow the preparation instructions and avoid wearing delicate or light-coloured clothing.

11. Cancellation and rescheduling

The Booking & Cancellation Policy explains:

  • how to cancel or reschedule;
  • the notice periods that apply;
  • late-arrival arrangements;
  • missed appointments;
  • refunds; and
  • what happens if The Ayur Chikitsa cancels an appointment.

Any cancellation charge will be applied fairly and will reflect the reasonably foreseeable loss caused by the cancellation, taking account of any costs saved and whether the appointment can be rebooked.

Nothing in these Terms or the Booking & Cancellation Policy affects your statutory consumer rights.

12. Online and telephone bookings

Where a statutory cancellation right applies to a booking made online, by telephone or by another distance method, information about that right will be provided before the contract is concluded.

Where you ask us to begin providing a service before any applicable statutory cancellation period has ended, you expressly request early performance of the service.

Where legally permitted, you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for a service supplied before you cancel. Your statutory cancellation right may end once a service has been fully performed following the legally required request and acknowledgement.

Nothing in this section removes any cancellation right that the law gives you.

13. Late arrival

Late arrival may result in:

  • a shorter appointment;
  • part of the planned service being omitted; or
  • the appointment being rescheduled where there is not enough time to proceed appropriately.

An appointment will not normally be extended where this would delay another client.

Any charge will be applied in accordance with the Booking & Cancellation Policy and applicable consumer law.

14. Cancellation by The Ayur Chikitsa

We may need to cancel or change an appointment because of illness, an emergency, unsafe conditions or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

Where we cancel and cannot provide the agreed service, you will be offered:

  • a suitable alternative appointment; or
  • a refund of payments made for the affected service.

We will not exclude liability for losses where it would be unlawful to do so.

15. Professional conduct and boundaries

All massage and bodywork services are strictly professional and non-sexual.

Harassment, sexualised behaviour, threats, abuse, discriminatory conduct or behaviour that places the practitioner or another person at risk will not be accepted.

We may pause, refuse or end an appointment where there is a reasonable safety, conduct or consent concern.

Any payment or refund decision will be considered fairly in the circumstances, and statutory rights will remain unaffected.

16. Clients under 18

Services for a person under 18 are available only by prior agreement.

A parent or legal guardian must:

  • provide consent;
  • supply relevant health and safety information; and
  • attend or remain involved where required by the practitioner.

We may decline a service where it is not considered appropriate or falls outside the practitioner’s professional scope.

17. Personal belongings

Please avoid bringing unnecessary valuables to the studio.

We will take reasonable care of property left in the treatment area. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not caused by our failure to take reasonable care.

18. Our responsibility to you

We will provide services with reasonable care and skill.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for:

  • death or personal injury caused by negligence;
  • fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
  • breach of your statutory consumer rights; or
  • anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

We are responsible for losses that are a foreseeable result of our breach of contract or failure to take reasonable care.

We are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was formed, or for business losses where you purchased the service wholly as a consumer.

A particular personal outcome is not guaranteed where the service itself has been supplied with reasonable care and skill.

19. Website information

Website content is provided for general information and wellbeing education.

Although we take reasonable care to keep information accurate and current, website content is not medical advice and should not be relied upon as a substitute for professional healthcare advice.

We may update, correct, replace or remove website content where necessary.

20. Intellectual property

The website’s written content, branding, graphics, photographs and original materials belong to The Ayur Chikitsa Ltd or are used with permission.

You may view or print reasonable extracts for your own personal, non-commercial use.

You must not reproduce, sell, republish or commercially exploit website content without prior written permission.

21. Privacy

We use personal information in accordance with our Privacy Notice.

Health information may be required to assess suitability and provide the requested service. It is treated as special-category personal information and given additional protection.

Please do not send unnecessary medical information through the general contact form.

22. Complaints

Please tell us promptly if you are unhappy with a service.

Where appropriate, raise a concern during the appointment so that the practitioner can make reasonable adjustments.

Formal complaints can be sent to:

Complaints will be handled in accordance with our Complaints Policy. Making a complaint does not affect your legal rights.

23. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes in law, our services or our business processes.

The Terms applying to your booking will normally be those provided or made available when the contract was formed. A later change will not retrospectively alter a confirmed booking unless required by law or agreed with you.

24. Severability

If any part of these Terms is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining sections will continue to apply.

25. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Consumers living in Scotland or Northern Ireland retain any rights to bring proceedings in their home jurisdiction where applicable.
