Overview

What is Kati Basti — Ayurvedic Lower-Back Warm Oil Ritual?

Kati Basti is a traditional Ayurvedic ritual in which warm herbal oil is held over the lower-back area within a carefully prepared dough ring. It is offered as a quiet, warming wellbeing experience — the area and oil are selected following a short suitability discussion.

At The Ayur Chikitsa in York, every Kati Basti is personalised following your Ayurvedic consultation, with warm herbal oils chosen to reflect your individual constitution (Prakriti) and current state of balance (Vikriti).
